Valley Roots Studio offers a variety of different brow services; from ultra natural, to bold and glam.
Microblading: Microblading is the process of creating hyper realistic faux hairs, with a hand tool that makes thin, curved lines in the skin that are intended to replicate the flow of real brow hairs.
This style is best for client’s that do not wear any brow makeup, and want their brows to look as soft and realistic as possible.
Microshading: Microshading also contains Microbladed hairstrokes throughout the brow, but includes an added layer of shading (which is done with a machine), to create a light dusting of color between the hairstrokes. This added shading creates color-density that gives the illusion of denser, fuller brows.
This style is great for client’s that wear a light amount of brow makeup, but still want to keep their brows natural looking.
Hybrid Brows: Hybrid Brows include Microbladed hairstrokes in the front of the brow, and full, saturated shading through the tail and arch. This is Britt’s most popular style! It keeps the front of the brows looking soft, but looks like the rest of the brow has been filled in with makeup.
This style is recommended for clients that wear full brow makeup every day, but don’t their brows to look too dark.
Powder Brows: Powder Brows have no Microbladed hairstrokes at all, and are filled in solely with shading. This style is intended to replicate dense makeup with full color throughout the brow.
This style is recommended for clients that want their brows to resemble deep and dark makeup.
Nano Brows: Nano Brows, much like Microblading, is the process of creating faux hairs throughout the brows, but is done with a machine (instead of a handtool). This technique is considered gentler on the skin than Microblading (because it is not creating nano cuts in the skin).
This style is great for clients that want their little makeup and want their brows to look as realistic as possible.
We understand that the different brow options can be kind of confusing! The style that you go with is dependent on personal preference, existing brows, makeup routine, and skin health.
The day of your appointment, Britt will ask you many different questions about your brow preferences, and help you decide which style is right for you!
There are several different factors that we will take into consideration when choosing your brow color; from your hair color, skin tones & undertones, and makeup preferences. We offer a wide-range of color options, from light blonde, to deep blackish-brown. A custom color is blended for each individual client.
Many people are, understandably, concerned about their brows being too dark. Britt takes the approach of erring on the side of modesty. We will start with a lighter, more modest color choice at your first appointment, and we can always go darker and bolder at your touchup, if desired.
Each brow shape is unique and fully-customized for every client. Britt uses a measuring process that begins by making a “grid” on your face, that finds the different points of brow symmetry based on your existing brow hairs and bone structure.
You will see and approve of the brow shape before we begin! Just like with the color choice, we believe that less is more at the first appointment. We can always alter the shape or make it thicker when you return for a touchup 6-1o weeks after the initial appointment.
Thankfully, getting your brows done is a pain-free process! We will numb your brows with a topical lidocaine cream for 20 minutes before the service, and continue to reapply a numbing gel throughout the procedure. Most clients feel nothing, and very often sleep through the process!
The aftercare process is much like any other tattoo, and mainly consists of a washing and ointment routine. You will be given a full aftercare kit, with written instructions and all the products necessary to care for your brows.
Other than minimal redness around the brow area (that typically dissipates within a couple of hours), there is no bruising or swelling that occurs after a brow service.
Otherwise, it takes 6 weeks for your all the layers of your skin to fully heal from any Permanent Makeup service. During this 6 week period, your brows will go through a series of different stages.
The first 1-4 days your color will be at its darkest. The following 5-7 days your skin will begin to lightly peel and flake. After that, the new skin begins to grow in around days 8-10, during which time the pigment may look like it has lightened. The pigment will begin to resurface over the course of the next 14-28 days.
For the first 14 days, you must avoid sweating, sitting moisture, excessive sun exposure, and skincare/makeup products on the treatment area.
No matter your age, skin type, or amount of brow hair, almost everyone is able to get their brows done!
There are, however, certain medical conditions, medications, and/or skin conditions that may disqualify you from receiving Permanent Makeup. Please review our Prep list prior to booking, which lists any contraindications that may impact your service.
Long-term brow retention varies from person to person, and is dependent on your skin type, lifestyle, and the type of brows you receive.
On average, clients typically get their brows touched up every 18-24 months.
Unlike a traditional tattoo ink, Permanent Makeup pigment is formulated to be more viscous and implanted in a more shallow layer of the skin. This ensures that the Permanent Makeup ages softly over time, and does not discolor.
All Permanent Makeup sessions (including brows, lips, and liner) require a touchup 6-10 weeks after the initial appointment. This is namely due to the fact that the color tends to lighten about 30% once healed, and the second appointment allows us to deepen the color while not overworking the fragile skin of the face.
The first brow appointment is scheduled for 2 ½ hours. During this time we will conduct a consultation, complete a consent form, take photos, draw the shape, etc. The actual tattooing process only takes about 1 - 1 ½ hours though!
The answer to this question is - it depends! Our ability to correct or cover another Artist’s work is reliant on the remaining color, the skin’s health, and your long-term brow goals. Working with existing Permanent Makeup often requires color and shape correcting, and in some cases, we may refer you for removal of the old work before creating your new brows.
If you have had your brows done before by another Artist, you are required to text or email clear, well-lit photos of your bare brows to us prior to booking.
At Valley Roots Studio, we specialize in Lash Line Enhancements and (dainty) Winged Eyeliner.
A Lash Line Enhancement consists of tattooing a between the eyelashes, and a thin line along the top, that extends from your inner-to-outer most lashes. This style is intended to add a small pop of color for a natural finish.
Our Winged Eyeliner option includes the above Lash Line Enhancement, plus a small wing at the end of the eye. The size and placement of the wing is dependent on your eyelid width and its creases. Because of the way our eyelids fold with age, we do NOT tattoo long or large wings, as we want your eyeliner to age gracefully with you! The wing size and placement will be discussed with your Artist prior to service.
We offer both top and bottom eyeliner for either service.
No, we will not tattoo watelines. This part of the eye is very fragile and contains our tear ducts - any damage or trauma to this area can result in chronic dry-eye and should never be tattooed.
A topical lidocaine numbing cream will be applied to the lid prior to tattooing, making the procedure relatively pain free! It’s normal for eyeliner services to be a little more tender than brows, but believe it or not - people sleep through this service all the time.
Its normal for a small amount of swelling to occur during the first couple of days post eyeliner-tattoo, but this varies from person to person. If any swelling does occur, its typically just along the lash line and does not impair your vision in any way (and bruising is even less common).
We currently only offer eyeliner services in black, grey, and brown.
Sorry lash lovers - unfortunately your lashes will need to be removed prior to service! This is because we do not want to introduce any bacteria/products from the lashes into the tattooed area, nor do we want to ruin your lashes.
You can get your lashes re-done as soon as 2 weeks after your appointment though!
Thanks for asking! If you are a contact-wearer, you MUST remove them prior to your eyeliner service. And, in addition to the Prep list we ask you to review prior to booking, please let us know if you have any other eye conditions.
Otherwise, it’s normal to be a little more nervous about eyeliner tattooing. For your ease of mind, please know that your eyes will remain shut during the procedure.
First and foremost, please review the Prep list prior to booking, and let us know if any of the stated medical conditions apply to you.
If you have EVER had a cold sore before, you MUST take an anti-viral for 5 days before and after your lip blush appointment. Please speak with your doctor (or dentist) about your options.
Otherwise, for 5 days prior to your appointment please exfoliate your lips daily (with something like a sugar scrub) and keep your lips heavily saturated with moisturizer. Removing and preventing excess dry skin will help your color implant more evenly and heal optimally!
There is a wide range of colors to choose from when it comes to lip blushing, and we will blend a custom color just for you. If you have a favorite lipstick/gloss, please bring it with you to your appointment for us to color match. Otherwise, your natural lip color will also be taken into consideration and your Artist will discuss your options in-depth with you prior to tattooing.
We will follow your natural lip shape for this service, and an outline will be drawn beforehand. While we can make small adjustments to your existing shape, we will not tattoo outside of the vermillion border. Lip skin and facial skin are very different, and tattooing outside of your lip’s natural border will result in discoloration.
Unlike other Permanent Makeup services, swelling is expected following your lip blush service, due to the tender tissue and many nerve endings in the lips. Swelling usually subsides after about 1-3 days, and can be treated with anti-inflammatories and ice.
The color will be at its boldest the first week, and then fade about 30-50% over the remaining 5 weeks of your healing period.
Lips are one of the most sensitive parts of the body, so lip blushing is a little more tender than brow and eyeliner tattooing. However, its still very tolerable and only takes about 1 - 1 ½ hours.
Following your lip blush appointment, try to avoid allowing salty or spicy food to come into contact with your healing lips.
